4 small insights for the online project manager (that can make a big difference)
Many project managers have taken at least part of their management tasks online, which makes lots of sense (of course we're dreadfully biased, but for good reason). The Internet lets you connect with your people instantly and allows you to easily store and track details, making information easy to manage and access for anyone working on your projects. And here are a few tips for the web project manager who spends a fair amount their day with their face in a computer.
1. Make it easy for people to adapt to your system - Whether you use our online project manger system or another product or products, to get people to buy in to using your system it needs to be intuitive and clearly spelled out how they can use it.
2. Keep a copy of your files in the cloud - God knows the number of times hard drives or local servers have crashed and taken thousands of important files with them into the electronic abyss. The smart web project manager saves copies (if not the originals) of their critical files in the cloud so that such catastrophe never happens.
3. Have a backup Internet connection option - If all your information is on the Web and your Internet connection is temporarily down, it's always nice to have a backup plan in place so you can access your online project manager tools and resources in a pinch. This could be as easy as getting a wireless Internet bug from your cell phone provider or as simple as ducking into the coffeeshop down the street to tap into their connection.
4. Archive important email trails - Sometimes keeping a record of communications with clients and associates is a necessary CYA tactic (even after the project is completed). If you're a web project manager who communicates via email frequently, archiving email conversations can potentially resolve misunderstandings and even save your hide.
